This post resonates so deep with me. I'm unemployed right now and in severe burnout. But I feel like I can't recover from this because I'm using what little energy I have to keep myself afloat. That exacerbates my burnout.
I hear you on that too. I do casual work but am so burned out that I am barely making it through my shifts. I HAVE to do them though because otherwise I can't pay my bills, end of story. It sucks. Gentle hugs to you xx
Thank you for today's article. I am a new subscriber and have identified with the topics here.
I wanted to share a few tips I have been using lately to help me get things done. This week I have been trying the Pomodoro technique. Work for 25 mins, break for 5 mins. Usually just two cycles of each, but helped me clean my whole kitchen and wash a few loads of laundry in an hour without feeling overwhelmed like it will take hours.
I also want to share EFT tapping (putting pressure or tapping on pressure points) with everyone. If you haven't heard of it, google or YouTube it and give it a try. It's backed by research. Can be used for sleep, anxiety, focus, pain, lots of uses if you like the technique. I use the app The Tapping Solution for guided sessions.
I hope these can help other people like they have helped me! I know coping tools are personalized and this may not be everyone's vibe!
I used EFT with my ex-wife. At the time I also learned in various courses for my own mental health. I never found any benefit, but I didn't have the conviction that it would work. Like everything - if you believe it will work, then it will...
How has your experience been & can you recommend any good resources for performing EFT for ADHD purposes?
As an AuDHDer currently going through burnout after getting overwhelmed at work I really appreciate this breakdown of why it happens, what it looks like and how to start to recover so thank you!
This post really resonated with me. This has been my life for the last couple of years. I know its happening but I can’t stop it. Sometimes I say to myself, okay, I am going to finish two projects that I haven't finished before I move on to something else. That seems to work and things stop feeling so overwhelming. Just yesterday I talked to my doctor about me not feeling so great mentally trying to deal with my ADHD. She was great and it felt so good to finally share my burnout with someone. Together we are working on a plan to move forward. I told her about this forum and she was thrilled that this is available.
This is so well explained. It’s like someone finally mapped out what my brain’s been trying (and failing) to put into words for years. That bit about the Ferrari engine with bicycle brakes? Nailed it. And I love the reminder that rest isn’t failure, it’s literally the medicine. More of this, please. More spaces that don’t equate worth with output. And more PDF templates because honestly, I need all the help I can get. 🙃
Thank you for this, it really does make the chaos feel a little more seen
Do you have a post that describes the symptoms? My family has always teased me for being “spacey” and when I was writing my dissertation and would get stuck, I would grab a pencil and paper and just start walking. As soon as I started moving, I wasn’t stuck anymore and could go back to my writing. I have wondered if I was a little adhd.

I recently wrote about burnout as an ADHD mum.

Amazing advice! Exactly what I have been looking for!
Everyone has been more concerned & focused on my Bipolar symptoms, they have not given me any advice or help with my ADHD or autism.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this. Serendipity!
